Special Kindergarten Class

The regular Kindergarten Class that we do at Chisaki Hana Yochien in Aino usually consists of mostly singing songs, playing games, learning common English words and phrases as well as some activities to promote and make learning fun and exciting.  At no stage do we want to do any writing in the class because it is all about listening at this stage of their English learning cycle.

However, when we got asked to do a special 3 month course for the Nen Cho students only we were a little nervous about how to introduce reading and writing of the students names especially since at the Nen Cho stage the students have a hard time writing Hiragana let alone Romaji.

But our worries all went away as the students attacked the challenge with energy and enthusiasm and at the end of the 3 months not only were they able read and write their own name but also those of their classmates.  This really was an eye opener for Shannon`s English School and as a result we started to introduce English reading and writing for our eikaiwa classes especially for our 1st and 2nd grade students.  At first the students were a little confused but within 2 months their reading and writing levels had improved remarkably.  Now all our 1st grade students can read and write extremely well but of course listening and speaking is still our first concern.
