We are looking forward to making our new classroom in Kuchinotsu and smoother and more natural place to study English.
Once completed fully, our aim is to have a fun and interesting environment in which to communicate and learn English. We invite you to come and look at our new place and have a practise lesson.
This is a very big achievement for Shannon`s English School as it is our first Junior High School Students to pass the very difficult and challenging Jun 2 Kyu exam. As with most of our students, the listening component of the exam isn`t difficult at all and nearly a perfect score was obtained, our students do struggle with the grammar component as its not a big part of our teaching curriculum.
The big difference is the interview in English. Our students are used to speaking and listening in English and its not such a worrying situation as a result the score in the interview was extremely high.
Recently I was videoed by Himawari TV at Chisaki Hana no Yochien where I do a regular classes teaching Nensho, Nenchu and Nencho students on a regular basis. The classes are always fun with lots of songs and games for the younger students and more difficult words and phrases for the older classes. On this day we concentrated on greetings, such as, How are you? and How old are you? as well as When's your birthday? before finishing with lots off phonics, alphabet and word challenges.
It was a great day for everyone, all the kids had a wonderul time, including me.
Very important to start learning English from a young age to develop the skills to be able to speak English as they get older and more confident.
Please check out this video, Shannon is only on for the first 3.35 sec.
A very big congratulations to all our students who have recently completed their Junior Eiken Tests. We can tell that a lot of effort has been put in as the high scores that a lot of our students achieved indicates so. Some students were doing the tests for the first time so this is a great experience for them and i am sure the next time they take the test they will be highly motivated to do so.
The Junior Eiken test is so important for students at a young age as it really helps with their listening skills which is the most important aspect of learning English in the early Elementary School ages.
Shannon's English School encourages that students as young as 3 years old start classes in order to enjoy English from a young age. It is important to get children to listen in English and to pronounciate many new words and sounds that makes English different to Japanese. We use a lot of songs at this age is it helps to reinforce the sounds of the words and makes learning more fun.
Here is a great example of kids using English songs to remember and use words for the future:
It was another great Easter Event with a good turn out, lots of activities and games and of course the egg hunt at the end which had to be held inside as the weather wasn't cooperating this year.
We started at 10am and immediately all the student were getting into all the different activities that we had. First we started to decorate our eggs:
Then we put our eggs into the various dye colors:
Time to dye the eggs
Next, lots of coloring and designing various Easter Themed products:
Followed by a great lunch whereby everyone brought a plate to share with everyone:
Finally on to everyone's favorite activity, the Easter Egg hunt:
and then finally on to the last game of the day, the always popular spoon races:
Lots of smiles were had all day and we look forward to doing it all again next year, hopefully the weather will be better so we can enjoy the Egg hunt game outside. Plenty of prizes and take home packs for the best designs of the day and of course chocolate and candy for the kids.
The last class of the year is always special as the children are going to be Elementary 1st Grade students soon and I have been teaching them for 3 years since the were Nen Sho kids. They have grown up so much, developed and improved their English is a high level for their age that it is sad to see them go but I know that they will always remember the great times we had together!
It is important for these kids to continue to study English and keep improving otherwise 3 years of study will go to waste. While your children are young this is the best time for them to learn a new language, not only will they remember the experience for the rest of their life but also their listening, speaking and pronounciation skills will be highly developed.
I wish all my students the best for Elementary School:
For whatever reason we seem to get a lot of Adult English Students in Obama compared to our other school locations. Our Adult Classes are always exciting and fun! We tend to do a lot of speaking and listening activities rather that grammar and writing based study, as I think this is more applicable to students who are looking for improve their communication level rather than their comprehension level.
The adult class numbers aren't too big, so 3 to 5 students allows us to be more casual and relaxed in class compared to a formal and strict curriculm. We also share various snacks, sweets and coffee plus tea after the lesson and this also adds to the comfortable atmosphere.
Currently we have adult classes on wednesdays from 7.30 to 9pm and on Fridays from 8.30 to 9.30pm.
If you are interested in joining or having a practise lesson, please contact us here and we can give more specific information on each class.
